The News

Bold Coast Spirits, based in Portland, Maine, launched Marine 01, a vodka rested on cracked Maine oyster shells sourced from Nor’Easter Oyster Company. The product is produced at Artisan Distillery in Oxford, Maine, and uses water from western Maine’s glacial watershed. The release date is May 18, 2026.

The first sip of Marine 01 feels like discovering a hidden corner in a familiar bar. Bold Coast Spirits has launched an oyster‑shell‑rested vodka that will only be sold in Maine, with 600 bottles available at select venues. The product is 750 ml, 80 proof, and priced at $27.99.

According to the release, the vodka comes from Artisan Distillery in Oxford. It’s infused with cracked Nor’Easter Oyster Company shells and glacial‑wetted water from western Maine. The “small batch” designation refers to the 600‑bottle initial run.

Marine 01 is available on‑premise only: Portland’s Douro, The Marquis Lounge; Biddeford’s Magnus on Water; Kittery’s Salty Spirits; and a handful of off‑premise retailers such as Bow Street Beverage and RSVP. Bars in Maine can market the spirit as an exclusive local ingredient, ideal for signature cocktails like a dirty martini or a mineral‑infused Bloody Mary.

For operators, two key points emerge. First, the Maine‑only availability gives bars a unique story to tell customers about a locally sourced, mineral-rich vodka. Second, because it’s not yet in wholesale distribution, off‑premise buyers should be cautious; stocking Marine 01 would involve accepting risk for a product that could sell out quickly.

A practical approach is to work with the listed venues—Douro, The Marquis Lounge, and others—to develop themed cocktail menus that showcase the oyster‑shell character. By observing how customers respond, operators can decide whether to expand distribution beyond Maine.

The release highlights 600 bottles limited to Maine, priced at $27.99, offering a focused product that blends local flavor with craft vodka quality.

BOLD COAST SPIRITS LAUNCHES MARINE 01, A VODKA RESTED ON OYSTER SHELLS

The First Expression in the New Maine Distillery’s Marine Series, Marine 01 Uses Cracked Maine Oyster Shells to Build Structure, Texture, and Mineral Character

PORTLAND, Maine — May 18, 2026 — Bold Coast Spirits, a Portland, Maine-based spirits brand, today announced the launch of Marine 01 – Oyster Shell Vodka, the first release in its Marine series, a collection of small-batch spirits built around ingredients sourced from Maine's coast. Marine 01 is produced and bottled at Artisan Distillery in Oxford, Maine, by co-founders Jay Lombard and Stuart Littlefield.

Marine 01 rests on cracked Maine oyster shells sourced from Nor’Easter Oyster Company. The shells are cleaned and repurposed as part of the vodka’s resting process. Contact with the shells builds texture, mineral character, and structure. Water is a defining ingredient in vodka, and Marine 01 uses water sourced from western Maine’s glacial watershed. The vodka finishes clean and lingers softly on the palate.

“Marine 01 is built around texture and coastal mineral character," said Jay Lombard, co-founder of Bold Coast Spirits. "When the spirit rests on the shells, the calcium and natural tannins in the shell slowly work into the vodka, building structure and a distinctly coastal minerality. The result is a vodka with a soft, rounded palate and a finish that holds up in a dirty martini, a Bloody Mary, or any savory build where balance matters.”

Bold Coast Spirits is partnering with select bars and restaurants to introduce Marine 01 through signature cocktails that highlight the vodka’s texture, structure, and coastal character. Marine 01 will soon be available at Douro and The Marquis Lounge in Portland, Magnus on Water in Biddeford, as well as Salty Spirits in Kittery. Off-premise, Marine 01 will be available at Bow Street Beverage and RSVP in the Portland area.

The first release of Marine 01 is limited to 600 bottles, in keeping with the brand’s tagline: Small Batches. Deep Waters. The vodka is sold in 750 ml glass bottles, at 80 proof, and priced at $27.99. The initial release will be available exclusively in Maine through on-premise accounts and retail partners.
