The News

Cazcanes Tequila announced the release of Nuestras Raíces Edición Especial 2026, a small-batch tequila made in a remote jungle enclave in Jalisco. The product is crafted by Humberto Alvarado using a family recipe and rustic methods, with an annual production of fewer than 12,000 liters. It was released in 2026 and is part of Cazcanes' annual small-batch agave distillate series.

The column below takes a distributor’s view, explaining how Cazcanes’ 2026 Nuestras Raíces small‑batch agave spirit will reshape product mixes, pricing decisions and channel plans.

What this release means for trade

Cazcanes has launched Nuestras Ríces 2026, an exclusive agave spirit that will be sold only on its e‑commerce site and through a handful of U.S. retailers and bars. The bottle carries a $109.99 price tag, 96.2 proof, and the total production is capped at less than 12 000 liters. Because it bypasses traditional wholesale channels, distributors should treat it as an exclusive SKU rather than part of their core inventory.

Why these numbers matter

The $109.99 price places the bottle in the premium segment. Market research shows that this tier has grown 12% year over year, while U.S. tequila imports fell 3.3 % in H1 2024. The fact that overall volume is shrinking but demand for higher‑priced spirits is rising indicates consumers are chasing rarity and quality—exactly what the <12k‑liter cap and artisanal production deliver.

Cazcanes’ 2025 release earned a 100‑point score from Wine Enthusiast, a result that should help spark early interest. The press also notes that Nuestras Raíces 2026 is classified as an agave distillate rather than tequila, so its distribution is limited to markets that accept such products—an extra layer of exclusivity.

Operational implications

Because the SKU is available only through a few channels, bars should treat it as a specialty item, showcasing it in tasting rooms or high‑end cocktail menus. Retailers that carry premium spirits might keep a modest inventory—12 to 24 cases—to gauge demand without overstocking.

Distributors who are not already working with Cazcanes should note that this launch does not create a new wholesale opportunity; it simply adds a high‑priced, limited‑availability product that can be promoted through events and targeted outreach. Those already partnered with the brand ought to emphasize the limited 12k‑liter cap to reinforce the premium price point and protect margins.

The concrete takeaway

Cazcanes’ 2026 Nuestras Raíces launch positions the company in the growing premium segment by capping production at under 12 000 liters and pricing each bottle at $109.99. This strategy signals scarcity to consumers and informs how distributors and retailers should slot it into their portfolios.

Original Press Release

JALISCO, MEXICO | Cazcanes Tequila announced today the launch of Nuestras Raíces Edición Especial 2026 (SRP $109.99), the latest release of its annual small-batch agave distillate. The announcement follows the inaugural 2025 release, which sold out online within seven hours and earned the first-ever perfect 100-point score for any spirit by Wine Enthusiast.

Spanish for “Our Roots,” Nuestras Raíces is handcrafted by Humberto Alvarado at Cazcanes’ place of origin, a remote jungle enclave in Jalisco. Using a family recipe and rustic taberna, Humberto preserves the true character of agave with methods that are entirely his own. The result is a curated annual blend of fewer than 12,000 liters — a nuanced portrait of the season, captured in spirit.

“For Nuestras Raíces 2026, we had the advantage of working with beautifully mature agave, harvested at peak sweetness. With an abundance of agave, we could be incredibly selective and choose only the plants that deliver on depth, richness, and the natural sweetness we seek every time,” said Cazcanes Co-Founder Jose Santillan.

Nuestras Raíces is a reflection of the land, the water, and the singular process that creates it. The agave is cooked in a low-pressure autoclave using wood-fire steam and then shredded with a salvaged, 50-year-old Chevy inline-6 engine used to break down the cooked agave fibers. The process is completed through a handmade still using water sourced from a nearby natural spring chosen generations ago by the Alvarado family.

“We built it the Mexican way,” said Cazcanes Nuestras Raíces Distiller Humberto Alvarado. “And this is how we’ve been working ever since. The goal was never to keep the spirit perfectly consistent, but to maintain it. It took 12 months to create this new batch, and you’ll discover that season in the final sip.”

Cazcanes Nuestras Raíces Edición Especial 2026 is bottled at still strength, 96.2 proof. Each batch is presented with a collectible illustrated label depicting Humberto crafting Nuestras Raíces and finished with Cazcanes’ signature hand-tied rope. Due to its small-batch production, it is available in very limited quantities at cazcanes.com/collections/our-tequilas and at select retailers, bars, and restaurants across the U.S.

What is an Agave Distillate?

Tequila is a protected category governed by strict production regulations, including geographic origin, agave variety, and production method. An agave distillate is a broader classification — predating the creation of the formal tequila appellation and often representing the original way agave spirits were produced in Mexico. Nuestras Raíces is a one-of-one agave distillate whose methods reflect a tradition that existed long before modern certification systems.

The Score Belongs to the Method

In April 2026, Nuestras Raíces 2025 became the first spirit in Wine Enthusiast's 46-year history to receive a perfect 100-point score. For Cazcanes, that score belongs to the method. The score is not simply recognition of a spirit — it is validation of a process rooted in patience, artisanal knowledge, and craftsmanship.

Ingredients & Tasting Notes

Nuestras Raíces 2026 is crafted exclusively with 100% Blue Weber agave, natural spring water, and wild yeast. Bottled at still strength (48.1% ABV), the liquid is bright, herbaceous, and boldly agave-forward.

Nose: Bright and herbaceous, with notes of fresh lime, salinity, grilled vegetables, and cut grass, layered with grapefruit, mint, roasted pepper, and lightly toasted cumin seed.

Taste: A lush, full-bodied mouthfeel delivers an unapologetically savory palate of roasted peppers, charred vegetables, and sea salt at the core, woven through with grapefruit, lime, and deeply ripe cooked agave, with blistered jalapeño lingering on the finish.

Finish: Long and warming, with lingering cooked agave sweetness, bright citrus notes, and a subtle thread of minerality.
