The News
DioniLife’s Mash Gang has won gold at the 2026 World Beer Cup in the non-alcoholic category. The award was given to the flagship hazy IPA, which uses Citra and El Dorado hops. The competition featured over 8,000 beers from more than 1,600 breweries judged by 200 international experts. The win marks a significant achievement for DioniLife’s team.
For distributors, retailers and on‑premise operators, a non‑alcoholic beer winning a World Beer Cup gold offers both a marketing hook and an indicator of product quality.
The 2026 World Beer Cup crowned DioniLife’s Mash Gang IPA a gold medal in the non‑alcoholic category—a rare achievement that signals more than an ordinary trophy. The flagship IPA, at 0.5 % ABV and built around Citra and El Dorado hops, moved from a home‑brew prototype in 2020 to distribution on Thrive Market, Total Wine & More, and select Whole Foods stores in Colorado, Wisconsin, and Georgia. With over 200 brews since its launch, the brand has an established portfolio that supports this new offering.
The cup drew 8 166 entries from 1 644 breweries across more than 50 countries; only 118 gold medals were handed out—just 1.44 % of submissions. That broad international field doesn’t guarantee national shelf momentum—the current footprint is limited to specialty online channels and a handful of Whole Foods locations, which is modest compared to the volume needed for mainstream rollout.
Distributors who focus on craft selections aimed at experiential or health‑conscious consumers might add Mash Gang as a premium low‑ABV option in curated tap lists or non‑alcoholic sections. It can spark conversation and help bars differentiate menus without the regulatory baggage tied to alcohol‑free alternatives.
Non‑alcoholic beer made up about 1.2 % of U.S. volume in 2025, up from 0.8 % in 2021—a modest share even as the category grows at an 8.3 % CAGR through 2030. The segment remains a niche within the broader ecosystem. A gold medal can boost brand equity and justify premium pricing, but it doesn’t lift volume on its own unless paired with aggressive distribution or strong marketing.
The 1.44 % gold‑medal rate confirms the beer’s high quality, a factor that can influence shelf placement decisions. The next step is to evaluate whether expanding beyond Thrive Market and select Whole Foods would be viable—perhaps through pilot programs in high‑traffic specialty retailers or craft‑focused grocery chains. If the brand’s shelf life and packaging hold up, a broader rollout could tap into the growing health‑conscious consumer base while preserving its premium positioning. The 1.44 % figure underscores how rare this accolade is in a field that saw more than 8 000 entries from over 1 600 breweries across more than 50 countries.

DioniLife’s Mash Gang has taken home gold at the 2026 World Beer Cup® (WBC), the world’s most prestigious beer competition. Often described as “the Olympics of Beer,” this year’s competition saw more than 8,000 beers from over 1,600 breweries judged by over 200 international expert taste testers in a blind taste test.
“This is a brilliant milestone for our team, giving us world-over recognition for our beer,” commented Damian McKinney, CEO and Founder of DioniLife. “Mash Gang was built by friends, fuelled by flavour and an obsession with brewing the very best beer on the planet, which happens to also be alcohol-free. It is wonderful to get this recognition for our flagship beer.”
Unlike other competitions, where many entries receive an award, the World Beer Cup is built on a ‘gold, silver and bronze’ award system, meaning only a very exclusive three beers are crowned out of the many thousands entered. Mash Gang was awarded gold—making this the ultimate of all trophies.
Crisp, bold, tropical and hoppy, Chug delivers flavour and refreshment in equal measure. This flagship hazy IPA uses a combination of Citra and El Dorado hops, bursting over a pale base with notes of passionfruit and grapefruit. Crafted with precision to 0.5%, with extra ‘dry hopping’ for body, depth and character, Chug is unique in the non-alcohol segment. Since its launch in 2020, Mash Gang has brewed 200+ beers, culminating in this amazing world-leading trophy win.
Organized by the Brewers Association (BA), the not-for-profit trade association representing brewers, the 2026 World Beer Cup, now in its 30th year, recognized the very best in beer and cider across 118 categories, while continuing to set the global standard for technical excellence, innovation, and creativity rooted in both tradition and progress.
An international panel of 255 judges from fifty countries evaluated 8,166 entries using rigorous, blind-tasting protocols. The 2026 competition brought together 1,644 breweries representing fifty nations, underscoring the event’s role as a truly global benchmark for quality.
“As a pioneering scale-up we are driving the future of non-alc. We deliver brands that truly answer the consumer ask for ‘no compromise’ on taste while being crafted from the very best ingredients. We aim to lead the transformation of non-alc beers, and also non-alc spirits, into truly aspirational and sought-after drinks,” concluded McKinney.
