The News

Denizen Rum, based in San Francisco, announced the launch of The Wander Series on April 6, 2026. The series includes a single-origin Jamaican rum finished in port casks, made from four Jamaican rums aged for at least eight years and married before being finished in ex-Port casks for three months. The product is imported by Hotaling & Co. and has an SRP of $78.

The Wander Series shows how a single‑origin rum can act as both an indulgence and a portfolio differentiator in a crowded premium market.

Priced at $78—about 50 % above the benchmark of $52.40 per 750‑ml bottle—the Wander Series lands in the super‑premium tier. The press highlights the rum’s “ability to stand beside some of the world’s best whiskies,” but its 1,200‑bottle run is far below the 86 % of limited editions that exceed two thousand bottles.

Port‑cask finishing, which has risen 27 % among craft distillers since 2020 (Beverage Dynamics), adds another layer to that scarcity. Denizen’s use of ex‑Port casks taps a trend where consumers link this finish with sophistication and depth. The rare production run combined with the emerging style offers a narrative that can justify the premium price for informed buyers.

California accounts for 18 % of U.S. premium rum sales (IWSR), so launching there targets a high‑demand market. Bars, distributors, and retailers who can translate this rarity into an elevated tasting experience will reap the most benefit from the Wander Series.

Original Press Release

SAN FRANCISCO, April 6, 2026 – Since its inception in 2010, Denizen Rum has invited spirit lovers to explore the world of Caribbean rum through a selection of award-winning blends from different island origins. With the launch of The Wander Series, Denizen takes a deeper, richer, and more exclusive dive into single origin Caribbean rums with cask finishes, kicking off the series with Denizen’s Single Origin Edition Jamaican Rum Finished in Port Casks (54% ABV; 750ml; $78 SRP; 1,200 bottles produced).

Imported by San Francisco’s Hotaling & Co., this new expression is crafted from four exceptional Jamaican rums – both pot- and column-distilled – and matured for a minimum of eight years in American white oak barrels previously used for whiskey and bourbon. The rums are then expertly married and finished in ex-Port casks for at least three months, adding rich layers of depth, complexity, and a refined, creamy finish.

“A rum of this caliber can stand beside some of the world’s best whiskies as a spirit to sip and savor,” says Gerry Ruvo, owner of Denizen Rum. “Hotaling & Co. is known for its portfolio of some of the world’s finest whiskies, and we’re confident that Denizen’s Wander Series of Single Origin rums will reveal how the same attention to production details and artistry achieves an equally exceptional spirit as some of the finest single malt whiskies coveted today.”

“As rum is the most diverse spirit in the world, produced in nearly 80 countries, the immense variety in production methods and styles can be overwhelming,” explains rum expert Martin Cate, owner of San Francisco's acclaimed Smuggler's Cove. “The Denizen Wander Series continues the positive trend of clearly communicating origin, production, aging, and finishing to the consumer. This Jamaican release offers a rich and engaging medium-bodied Jamaican rum elevated with a harmonious and well-integrated port cask finish.”
