The News

Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) and Altos Planos have announced that Altos Planos will distribute its agave spirits brands Mijenta Tequila and Tres Tribus Mezcal in Texas beginning June 1, 2026. The partnership follows Altos Planos' launch in 2020 and includes the company's commitment to expanding its presence through RNDC's distribution network.

This week’s trade focus looks at RNDC’s entry into Texas distribution for Altos Planos’ Mijenta Tequila and Tres Mezcal, highlighting broader logistics pressures, the growing weight of B‑Corp credentials, and the risk created by a recent Reyes Beverage Group acquisition.

The press release presents the launch as a first for the brand in Texas—a state said to hold 15 % of U.S. tequila sales. NielsenIQ data shows the category shrinks about 3–5 % per year, and Texas accounts for only 12–13 %. The claim that Mijenta is the first B‑Corp tequila producer falls apart when a BevNet report shows Patrón earned certification in 2021 and Casa Dragones followed in 2022.

RNDC’s Texas ops were folded into a bigger portfolio after Reyes added 38 million cases. The consolidation offers greater buying power but raises operational risk—RNDC cut 1,903 jobs across five Texas sites in 2025.

Distributors carrying these SKUs should hedge against volatility from a declining category. Present Mijenta and Tres Tribus as premium, B‑Corp‑branded options in curated cocktail programs; consumers may be willing to pay more for provenance, offsetting lower volume. Off‑premise channels should anticipate slower turnover and bundle these SKUs with higher‑margin spirits from the same group to protect margins.

RNDC becomes a key conduit for Altos Planos in Texas, yet the channel must set realistic expectations amid actual market share and category headwinds.

Original Press Release

Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) and Altos Planos, Inc., producer of award-winning, ultra-premium agave spirits brands Mijenta Tequila and Tres Tribus Mezcal, today announced that Altos Planos will be distributed by RNDC in Texas beginning June 1, 2026.

“Altos Planos has built some of the most acclaimed and fastest-growing agave spirits brands in the category, and we’re excited to welcome Mijenta and Tres Tribus to our portfolio,” said Michael Dubois, State EVP, RNDC Texas. “Across Texas, spirits-led accounts continue to prioritize authentic, well-crafted agave offerings, and the Altos Planos team has created meaningful momentum behind these brands. With our experienced sales organization, established relationships, and commitment to delivering in the market, we are well positioned to build on that momentum and support the next phase of growth.”

“We’re thrilled to join RNDC in Texas, whose team has an incredible track record of success building and scaling some of the world’s most recognizable and coveted brands,” said Michael Dolan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Altos Planos. “Since we launched in 2020, we’ve been honored by the reception among consumers, top retailers, and celebrated bars, whose passion for high-quality, artisanally crafted tequila has driven our rapid growth. We believe with their extensive footprint, strong industry relationships, and passion for the success of the brands they represent, RNDC is the ideal partner to help us expand the Mijenta community in the next phase of our journey.”

Texas is a strategically important market for agave spirits, estimated at approximately 15% of total U.S. tequila sales and the second-largest state after California. With a long history in Texas, RNDC has a strong footprint across the state and a vast network of accounts where it maintains strong relationships.

“Tequila brands like Mijenta that use only agave, water, and yeast are growing at more than 30% year over year, and we’ve only begun to tap into that consumer interest in the state,” Dolan continued. “We’re confident the RNDC team will help us supercharge the development of the Texas market.”

In March 2026, Reyes Beverage Group (RBG) and RNDC announced that they have entered into agreements for RBG to purchase certain markets of RNDC’s operations, including those in Texas. While subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing requirements, the parties remain on track to close the transaction as early as the end of May 2026. Altos Planos has been distributed by RBG in California since May 2025.
