The News

Pure Project, a San Diego-based craft brewery, has announced the release of two new non-alcoholic beers: Grounded, a non-alcoholic India pale ale, and Sunsip, a non-alcoholic blonde ale. Both are below 0.5% ABV and available year-round at all five Pure Project taproom locations in San Diego County, as well as at select retailers.

In this week’s beer‑industry roundup we focus on Pure Project’s two new non‑alcoholic brews—Grounded IPA and Sunsip Blonde. The launch marks a strategic entry into the growing U.S. non‑alcoholic category and offers insights for bars, distributors, and retailers looking to diversify low‑ABV offerings.

The company presents the launch as its first “widely available” NA product, with year‑round access in all five San Diego taprooms and select retailers. The release highlights a 0.5 % ABV, a craft‑focused ingredient list, and a 1 % planet pledge. In practice, this signals that Pure Project is testing a niche that still represents roughly 1.2 % of U.S. beer volume but is growing at a 14.3 % CAGR through 2030, according to recent market data.

The launch coincides with favorable growth trends, yet the limited share of overall beer volume indicates demand remains modest. Bar managers can look to the fact that 68 % of NA drinkers prefer craft breweries over macro brands—a clear indication of an existing audience for low‑ABV offerings.

Pure Project’s distinct hop profiles—Grounded’s citrus and resin notes from Citra and Mosaic, Sunsip’s fresh bread, jasmine, and lemon zest—provide opportunities for on‑premise menus that want to diversify their low‑ABV selection.

Because distribution is currently limited to taprooms and a few retailers, bars must either negotiate directly with Pure Project or partner with a local distributor to obtain shelf space. Distributors must weigh the fact that the launch remains in a pilot stage, with only five taprooms and a handful of retailers. Those who already carry craft NA products may find adding Grounded and Sunsip deepens their niche offering; those without existing NA items might hold off, given the segment’s modest 1.2 % share.

With an ABV below 0.5%, the beers qualify as non‑alcoholic under federal rules, easing certain licensing requirements while still requiring compliance with state liquor laws. Consumers seeking low‑ABV craft drinks will find Grounded’s citrus hop bitterness from Citra and Mosaic hops, and Sunsip’s fresh bread notes paired with jasmine and lemon zest.

Because the beers are sold in taprooms, customers can sample them before purchasing a bottle or can for home consumption. Pure Project’s entry into the NA space taps a high‑growth segment that accounts for just 1.2 % of U.S. beer volume. Limited distribution offers bars an avenue to reach a niche crowd, yet they face supply limits. Distributors can broaden their craft portfolio without committing excessive stock, and consumers gain fresh flavor choices aligned with the rising demand for non‑alcoholic craft beers.

Original Press Release

Pure Project has announced the release of two new non-alcoholic craft beers: Grounded, a non-alcoholic India pale ale, and Sunsip, a non-alcoholic blonde ale. These releases mark the San Diego craft brewery's first widely available NA offerings, extending its ingredient-focused brewing philosophy into the non-alcoholic beer space.

Both of Pure Project's non-alcoholic beers are below 0.5% ABV and offer a full-flavored, satisfying, and refreshing drinking experience.

“We've been eager to share our brewing ethos with the world of NA beer, and we've been able to achieve that goal while embracing the quality and standards that are at the core of our craft," said Pure Project Co-founder and Brewer, Winslow Sawyer. "With these releases, we're excited to give people more options to support beer for good, even when they are looking for a non-alcoholic beverage.”

Grounded NA IPA showcases two expressive Pacific Northwest hop varieties, Citra and Mosaic, resulting in a bold, aromatic brew that delivers notes of bright lemongrass, citrus, and resin, followed by a crisp, slightly bitter finish. Sunsip blonde ale moves more delicately across the palate, offering flavors of freshly baked bread and jasmine, rounded out by a subtle whole wheat character and a hint of zesty lemon peel.

Grounded NA IPA and Sunsip NA blonde ale are now available year-round at all five Pure Project taproom locations in San Diego County, as well as at select retailers.
